Multimodal source reconstructions from combined EEG and MEG data

EEG and MEG data can be combined after a Signal-to-Noise-transformation for increased information content and improved spatial resolution of source reconstructions. A conductivity factor can be fitted to take care of the not very well known in vivo conductivities that affect the EEG, but not the MEG solutions.

Import filters for generic 4D-Neuroimaging (BTi), Neuroscan (*.fif), and XLTEK (Revision K) file formats

Montage editor

Allows to resort or remontage EEG measurements by specifying montages with a graphical User-Interface.

Template based event detection

The template based event detection can be used for epileptic spike detection / classification and averaging as well as for artifact detection followed by averaging and PCA-projection (see below).

PCA-projection for artifact suppression

Reduces eye blink or heart beat (ECG) artifacts by projecting the leading spatial-temporal components of the averaged artifact out of the data.

Time-resolved spectra (short time FFT)

Gives a color-coded overview of the frequency components that are contained in the data averaged over all channels. Time and frequency resolution are adjustable as well as linear and logarithmic color scales.

Vector beamformer scans

In addition to deviation and MUSIC scans, vector beamformer scans can be performed with and without given dipole orientations on the segmented cortical surface or on 3D-grids.

SWARM current density reconstructions (sLORETA-weighted minimum norm)

In contrast to sLORETA, SWARM results in currrent densities (similar to MNLS) instead of statistical measures for e.g. cortically constrained Current Density Reconstructions (CDRs).

Additional anatomical image data formats (DICOM)

An extension to the image data import wizard gives an overview of the different image data sets that can be contained in the series of DICOM images. Floating point data formats with offsets and lossless RLE- and JPEG-encoded images are supported.

Automated 3D-co-registration using mutual volume gray-level matching

Largely improved co-registration accuracy can be achieved by this parameter-free, automated procedure. After setting the principal landmarks (Nasion and Pre-Auricular Points) in the first image modality (normally MRI), the algorithm is able to automatically co-register e.g. CT and / or PET images to this 'master' image dataset by optimizing the alignment by statistically analyzing the gray-level of all image data voxels.

Talairach co-ordinates (wizard for bounding box definition)

Wizard-guided specification of AC and PC (Anterior and Posterior Commissure) and the bounding box around the brain for Talairach base co-cordinate systems for normalized position and reconstruction result display.

Anatomical and functional atlases

Color-coded overlay and display of synonyms of different functional and anatomical atlases onto the structural image data.

Orthogonal cuts through segmented surfaces with volume image data display

3D-display of orthogonal cuts through segmented surfaces (skin or cortex) with overlay of definable image data sets.

Cortical inflation (smoothing)

Segmented surfaces (e.g. the cortex) can be inflated (smoothed) for simplified and improved visualization of cortical activity in sulci.

Full multi-core processor support (multi-threaded algorithms)

Largely improved computational performance for most of the time-consuming calculations by using parallelization.

OpenGL-accelerated 3D-graphics

Interactive real-time rendering of the whole 3D-scenario (skin, cortex, sensor geometry, and reconstruction results) on state-of -the-art graphics cards.

Highly interactive User-interface with toolbars for better accessibility of frequently used functions

Redesigned User-Interface with toolbars for the most frequently used functions.

Export of results to EXCEL, MATLAB, SPM

Results can be now be exported in these popular file formats.

Report generator (RTF-format)

Automated report-generation containing results in text-form and partial or full window screenshot graphics in the most versatile Rich Text Format, which can be processed by almost every text editor program.
